An operation by the EThekwini District Task Team police officers in the Wentworth policing area on the night of 21 August 2020, resulted in the arrest of three men aged between 17 and 30 for attempted murder and pointing of firearm.
On 20 August 2020 at 18:45, a 35-year-old male was allegedly pointed with a firearm and rammed with a vehicle by two men on Raj Mahal Road in Wentworth. The suspects fled the scene and the victim was taken to hospital for medical attention.
A case of attempted murder was opened at the Wentworth police station for investigation. Two men aged 17 and 21 were arrested. Police recovered a gas gun from the suspects.
Police officers proceeded to Wiest Street where they arrested a 30-year-old man for an incident that occurred on 19 August 2020. It is alleged that at 19:25, a 35-year-old male was walking on Alabama Road on his way home when he came across three men who blocked his way, assaulted him and pointed him with a firearm. A case of pointing of firearm was opened at Wentworth police station for investigation.
Police worked vigorously to arrest the suspects to maintain peace and harmony in the area. A 17-year-old has been released into the custody of his parents. All the arrested suspects will appear at the Durban Magistrates Court on Monday, 24 August 2020 facing charges of attempted murder and pointing of firearm.
The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Jula commended the police officers for the arrest.
