A suspect was arrested by members of Reaction Unit South Africa after he and an accomplice, robbed and attempted to stab an individual in Phoenix, KZN on Saturday 26 January 2019.
At approximately 09:39 Reaction Officers were on patrol in the area when they were flagged down by a female reporting a robbery in progress. RUSA Members proceeded to the location and noticed the suspects fleeing on foot through a pathway.
The Officers called for additional backup while they pursued the suspects on foot along the M25. One of the wanted men was apprehended outside the Ntuzuma Magistrates Court while his accomplice managed to evade arrest.
Upon searching the suspect a Samsung cellphone belonging to the victim and an Okapi pocket knife was recovered in his possession. He was positively identified by the victim as the person who repeatedly attempted to stab him during the robbery. With the use of his umbrella the victim managed to block off the attack.
During an interview with the suspect it was established that he was previously imprisoned for robbery for which he served a three year sentence. He was also allegedly shot in the chest by Police during a chase shortly after his release.
The suspect was handed over to Police and is currently detained at the Phoenix SAPS.
