South African Police Service

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of KwaZulu-Natal Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi has condemned the attack on a police officer from the Shongweni K9 Unit who was returning home from work last night, 15 June 2018.

It’s alleged that the Constable was returning to his home in KwaNdengezi at 22:00 when unknown assailants opened fire on his vehicle. The member sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was rushed to a local hospital in a critical condition.

He remains in a stable condition in the Intensive Care Unit.

“Every attempt is being made to trace the perpetrators of this heinous crime. Those who attack our police officers will feel the full wrath of the law bearing down on them and they should always be looking over their shoulders. We wish the member a speedy recovery and he will remain in our thoughts and prayers until then,” said Acting Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mkhwanazi.
