Two dogs have been rescued by Members of Reaction Unit South Africa in a house fire in Tongaat, KwaZulu-Natal at 12:57 on Thursday 31 January 2019.

Officers arrived at the residence on Hurbans Drive, Gandhis Hill and found a wendy house on fire. Reaction Officer Lenny Naidoo gained entry into wooden home and rescued two dogs. The fire rapidly spread to the main building and several more Officers were despatch to assist in salvaging furniture from the home. The Ethekwini Fire Department responded swiftly and dosed the flames.

The homeowner arrived on scene a short while later and blamed the fire on her 52 year old son in law who had threatened on numerous occasions to burn down the house. He previously doused the home with petrol and set it alight. The fire was quickly extinguished. The woman added that her daughter was at a local clinic after her son in law had broken her hand in a fight in a separate incident. She believes that he used this opportunity to set the house on fire in her absence.

A case of Arson is being investigated.
