DURBAN- Police officers from the King Cetshwayo Cluster Cluster launched an operation after they were alerted to a robbery that occurred at a house on Davies Crescent in Empangeni. The operation led to the arrest of two suspects aged 22 and 30 and the recovery of two firearms with 19 rounds of ammunition.

It is alleged that on 03 August 2019 at 04:50, two armed men entered the home and robbed the family at gunpoint of an undisclosed amount of cash as well as cellphones. A case of robbery was opened at Empangeni police station for investigation. Police swiftly embarked on an investigation to apprehend the suspects.

Following a rigorous investigation the suspects were nabbed shortly afterwards in possession of firearms on Rex Henderson Road. They were detained at the Empangeni police station and charged for being in illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. Detectives are working on linking them to the robbery case. They will appear in the Empangeni Magistrates Court on Monday, 5 August 2019.

The Provincial Commissioner for KwaZulu-Natal, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula hailed the breakthrough into the home invasion. “The swift reaction by police officers in Empangeni is highly commendable and I am expecting to see police in other parts of the province to respond similarly. The removal of criminals and illegal firearms from our streets must be our mission and we should strive to achieve this at all odds,” said Lieutenant General Jula.
