Swift response by KwaMashu police has led to the arrest of two robbery suspects aged 23 and 30, shortly after they have committed the offence. On 16 April 2020, the two victims were walking along Ingome Road in C Section when they were accosted by three unknown suspects. At gunpoint, they demanded cash and cellphones. Police were alerted and initiated an investigation after they were given a description of the suspects.

Following a swift investigation, the three suspects were positively identified and police swooped on a house in the area. One of the suspects managed to escape during the operation. During a search of the premises, a pistol with seven rounds of ammunition; five cellphones; a Bluetooth speaker; bags and knives were recovered.

Two suspects were placed under arrest and taken to the KwaMashu police station for detention. While the police officers were processing the suspects, another person arrived at the police station to report a robbery. He positively identified the suspects as well as his bag among the recovered items.

The suspects will appear in the Ntuzuma Magistrates Court soon, facing charges of armed robbery as well as possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Police investigations revealed that the firearm was robbed from the owner on 13 April 2020, when he was accosted by a group of men who also robbed him of cash and a watch at his business premises on Malandela Road.

Further linkages are still being conducted to determine if they can be linked to the robbery and other pending cases in the area.

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula praised the KwaMashu police officers for the speedy arrests.
