Armed robbery suspects arrested, Phoenix

On Saturday morning 27 March 2021, at approx 10:21 Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) whilst on patrol in Phoenix, Kwazulu Natal was flagged down by an unknown male seeking assistance after he was robbed by three suspects armed with a pistol and knives.

The victim provided a detailed description of all three suspects who had robbed him of several kilograms of copper.

Reaction Officer Fitzpatrick Johnson and Crew Mlungisi Gumede called for back up and began the hunt for the perpetrators. After a brief search, the three suspects were spotted fleeing over the M25 towards KwaMashu.

Both Officers managed to arrest two men and recovered a replica 9mm pistol tucked into the pants of one suspect. The second male that was arrested, initially denied that he was involved in the Robbery. He informed Officers that he was also a victim and was held at gunpoint by the gun man that was also arrested.

Prior to releasing him, Reaction Officers obtained CCTV footage from local businesses and found that the man was one of the suspects that had robbed the victim. He was also captured on camera fleeing the crime scene with his accomplices.

Both suspects were handed over to SAPS Kwamashu.
