Armed suspects stabbed a resident’s dog during an Assagay home invasion in the early hours of 22 May 2019.
Blue Security community and media liaison officer Andreas Mathios said the resident was left traumatised after the armed suspects gained entry into her home and held her up at knifepoint at around 3.45am. “The resident’s husband had just left their home to go for a run and she went into the lounge. Moments later two suspects entered the house through the back door and held her up at knifepoint,” he said.
“One suspect remained with the victim while the other suspect proceeded to ransack the house and stabbed the dog, an Africanis, in the buttock when she became agitated. The suspects fled with jewellery, cellphones, an iPad, a handbag and other valuables,” Mathios said. “A member of the SPCA attended the scene and treated the dog before transporting it to the SPCA clinic in Kloof for further treatment. The resident was not injured during the incident.”

Mathios said the dog had remained in the clinic overnight and was expected to return home today.
He advised residents to ensure doors and security gates are keep locked and to be vigilant when opening up in the early morning to attend to pets and chores like taking out the rubbish. “Criminals often observe their targets’ behaviour patterns and then lie in wait to strike at an opportune moment. If your dogs are barking or you hear noises outside at night or early in the morning rather contact your security company and ask them to investigate, instead of going outside yourself. We have had many cases reported to us where suspects have ambushed residents the moment they go outside to investigate,” he said.
