Armed robbers fired shots at an armed response officer and the police as they fled the scene of an Umhlatuzana home invasion yesterday afternoon.

Blue Security community and media liaison officer Andreas Mathios said the robbers held up a family in 56th Avenue at around 2.50pm. “Five suspects arrived at the house in a white Mercedes (ND 684027) and held up the family at gunpoint. The gang fled the scene with cash, jewellery and other valuables, firing several shots at our officer and the police who had responded to the scene of the crime.”

“Fortunately, there were no injuries, although the family was traumatised and received medical attention from ER24 Paramedics at the scene,” Mathios said.

Chatsworth SAPS attended the scene of the crime.

A Bluff family was also lucky to survive an armed robbery unharmed, when three suspects invaded their home recently.
