Armed robbers fled with cash, cigarettes and liquor after holding up staff at an Escombe retailer on Saturday evening.
Blue Security community and media liaison officer Andreas Mathios said a gang of five men had arrived at the shop in a silver/grey VW Polo Player at around 7.50pm. “A staff member was busy cashing up for the day when the gang burst into the store and held him up at gunpoint. They helped themselves to R10 000 in cash as well as cigarettes to the value of R2 000 and alcohol valued at around R9 500, before fleeing the scene. It’s not clear what else was stolen during he robbery. No injuries were reported,” Mathios said.
Malvern SAPS attended the scene of the crime.
