In the early hours of 15 June 2017 members from Durban K9 Unit, Special Task Force Unit and the Provincial Tracing Team decended on a homestead in the Odidini Area of Umbumbulu in the effort to arrest an alleged Taxi Hitmen who were also wanted on several murder cases.
The operation resulted in 2 suspects being arrested and 7 unlicensed firearms and ammunition being recovered. Various firearms including various assorted rounds of ammunition were seized. It is reported that during the arrest, one of the suspects, fire a shot aiming towards the police members. Fortunately, no one was injured as a result of the shot being fired. One suspect was apprehended by a police K9 when he attempted to flee the scene.
At the time of the apprehension, the suspect was in possession of an R4 assault Rifle as well as a Beretta 9mm handgun.
