RED HILL, KWAZULU-NATAL — As the political landscape shifts toward the November 2026 Local Government Elections, ActionSA has significantly ramped up its campaign efforts. During a major political realignment event held in Red Hill, north of Durban, the party unveiled 18 new members, signaling a strategic push to become a decisive governing force in the metro.
ActionSA Party President Herman Mashaba stated that these new additions are critical to strengthening the party’s bid to govern effectively. During the event, Mashaba welcomed the influx of new members who have crossed over from several major political parties, including the MK Party, IFP, ANC, and the PA.
A central highlight of the realignment was the announcement of Andrew, the sitting councillor for Ward 34, joining ActionSA. Mashaba emphasized the significance of this defection, noting that Andrew successfully won the ward in the past against established political parties backed by massive resources, relying entirely on a grassroots community mandate.
“We are really excited about this because this is someone obviously with a very strong constituency,” Mashaba explained, expressing pride that a proven community leader has chosen to align with ActionSA after observing the impact of their current councillors.
Speaking on his decision to join the party, Ward 34 Councillor Andrew explained that he felt he could no longer do justice to the mandate and expectations of his community operating independently. He stated that he can best serve his constituents through the established machinery of ActionSA, specifically highlighting the strategic advantage of the party’s current representation in parliament.
Looking ahead to the official voting date, Mashaba expressed high confidence in the party’s trajectory. He noted that as the country approaches the elections on November 4, 2026, ActionSA is fully prepared to step onto the national stage and expects to be the “biggest disruptor” in the upcoming local government polls.
