On 18 June 2021, the Mthunzini High Court sentenced Minenhle Biyela (22) to 20 years imprisonment for murder and 15 years for robbery.

His sentence came after the court heard how he killed Sphakamiso Mzobe (34) at Plezini, Enyamazane in Maphumulo.

On the night of 19 October 2020 at 20:00, Mzobe was on his way home when he was ambushed by unknown men who robbed him of his firearm and cellphones.

He was shot multiple times in the body by the men who fled the scene on foot. His lifeless body was found the following morning. A case of murder was opened for investigation at Maphumulo SAPS.

The docket was assigned to a dedicated investigating officer who investigated the matter further.

On 29 February 2021, Mzobe was finally nabbed and was tried in court. He made several court appearances. His bail was successfully opposed in court and he was held behind bars until his sentencing.
