PIETERMARITZBURG — An abandoned newborn baby boy is recovering in a hospital after being rescued in Pietermaritzburg today. Quick-thinking pedestrians walking near the area heard the infant’s cries and immediately alerted emergency services, leading to a successful medical intervention.

The incident unfolded at approximately 12:00 PM when the KwaZulu Private Ambulance Service received urgent calls from the public. The emergency dispatch was directed to Bombay Road, situated directly across from Northbury Secondary School. Locals had noticed the distinct sounds of an infant crying from the grassy verge alongside the road and promptly contacted authorities.

Upon reaching the location, Advanced Paramedics took immediate control of the situation. The medical team performed a comprehensive clinical evaluation of the child while simultaneously implementing protocols to warm the baby and protect him from environmental exposure.

Following the thorough on-scene assessment, medical personnel confirmed that the newborn remained in stable condition. He was subsequently transported to a nearby medical facility to undergo further pediatric evaluations and receive ongoing care.

The rapid response from the local community played a vital role in the positive outcome, as their immediate notification to emergency lines prevented the infant from enduring extended exposure to the elements. Local law enforcement officials were on-site to manage the area, and a formal investigation into the circumstances of the abandonment has been officially launched.
