Berea police have taken a baby to a place of safety after the child was found abandoned in a parking bay at Musgrave Center.
A police source told Berea Mail the “cheerful” newborn baby was found in a plastic bag which had been placed close to the rear tyre of a car parked in the parking bay. “Luckily the driver stopped and opened the bag,” the source said.
Berea SAPS communications officer, Captain PN Naidoo confirmed a baby had been found abandoned in the shopping center. “Berea police will investigate a case of abandonment of an infant,” he added.
The mother of the innocent baby should have protected the infant from all harm, and the reasons for abandoning the baby is unknown at this stage. Fortunately, the driver spotted the bag and stopped to check.
