A man, believed to be 94-years-old, was found dead in his residence on Laurence Crescent in Hayfields, Pietermaritzburg.
ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene shortly before 08h00 and found the local authorities already in attendance.
Once in the home, paramedics found the man lying in a pool of blood in one of the rooms.
Paramedics assessed the man and found that he had sustained numerous injuries and showed no signs of life. Unfortunately, nothing could be done for the man and he was declared dead.
It is believed that the neighbours had called the local authorities after they found the body.
Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
