At approximately 02:58am members of Reaction Unit South Africa were dispatched to Oakford in Verulam after receiving reports of a rape and attempted robbery.
Upon arrival reaction officers were informed that an African male armed with a spear broke down the door to an elderly couples home. The suspect then began assaulting and stabbing the male victim with the spear demanding valuables before dragging the 70 year old Indian woman into a nearby bush were he raped her.
The victim managed to escape and fled to a neighbors home for help. The suspect fled the scene in an unknown direction.
The couple were rushed to a local hospital were they are currently receiving medical attention.
