A total of 54 people have been treated by various services and transported to a number of hospitals following yet another bus crash in KwaZulu-Natal on Sunday afternoon.

The bus, travelling from the direction of Pietermaritzburg towards Durban on the R603, careened out of control and rolled about 10km from Umbumbulu on Sunday afternoon, ER24 spokeswoman Chitra Bodasing-Harduth said.

“ER24 paramedics as well as various other services are on scene. It is understood at this stage that there was estimated to be between 60 and 65 people travelling on the bus.”

Upon arrival at the scene paramedics found that the bus had fallen about 10 metres down the embankment, rolling several times.

“Various services have transported some of the patients to hospital with several other patients still being treated on [the] scene.”

The injuries ranged from minor to moderate, Bodasing-Harduth said.
