5 Suspects impersonating police invade farm, demand access to the safe, Franklin

Five males arrived on Newlands Farm, in the franklin area in the KwaZulu-Natal province of South Africa in two vehicles on the night of 8 February 2023.

The one male was dressed in SAPS uniform and the other males were dressed in civilian clothes. They identified themselves as members of SAPS.

The suspects wearing civilian clothes were wearing reflective jackets with POLICE on the back. They were all armed, some with R5 rifles.

The suspects demanded entry into the house stating that they were affecting a search warrant as they were investigating a case of “money laundering”.

One of the SAPS members called the farmer by name demanding access to the house. After they were let into the house they demanded the safe to be opened and then proceeded to remove a some of cash from the safe.

At that time an alert was already activated and neighbours started arriving at the house. As soon as the neighbours arrived the suspects lost interest and left the house in a hurry.

At this stage it is not sure if anything of value was taken.

The suspects were driving a DC Isuzu with registration number BHS477B and a white Hilux van with registration number BVM047B.

It is believed that both number plates are false.

There have been other incidents where suspects dressed in SAPS uniform have used this to gain access into homes, under the premise of affecting a search warrant. Please be alert and don’t allow any SAPS members into your home.

These suspects refused to hand over the “search warrant” and also refused to identify themselves. They also did not want videos to be taken of them.

The matter was reported to the local area commissioner and a case of attempted robbery and impersonating a police officer is being opened.
