It is alleged that on 1 February 2021 at 21:00, the complainant and his companion was at his home at Etete when four men pushed the door open. At gunpoint, the suspects robbed them of their belongings before fleeing the scene.

An operation was then conducted by Ilembe Crime Intelligence, Umhlali Task Team and Detectives to trace the suspects involved in the robbery. On 3 February 2021, the team managed to arrest five suspects aged between 16 and 19 at Groutville. The suspects were found in possession of a play station, cellphones, clothes, toy gun and hand knob used as weapons during the robbery.

During the operation, a 22-year-old suspect was found in possession of drugs. He was then placed under arrest and is appearing today in the KwaDukuza Magistrates’ Court for possession of drugs.

The five suspects are expected to appear before the KwaDukuza Magistrates’ Court on charges of house robbery.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner for KwaZulu-Natal, Major General Thulani Gonya applauded the arrests. “We welcome the arrests of these notorious criminals and commend our police officers for working around the clock to bring the perpetrators to book,” he said.
