4 Relatives nabbed for kidnapping, robbery and assault, Durban

Four suspects aged between 23 and 33 are expected to appear on 11 January 2021, in the Durban Magistrates’ Court for charges of kidnapping, robbery and assault.

It is alleged that on 7 January 2021 at 14:00, a 21-year-old victim was waiting for a taxi at Tugela Ferry Taxi rank in Durban, when she was approached by her relatives who informed her that she was called by her cousin sister who was near the vicinity. She went with them to the cousin sister and was immediately attacked by the cousin sister who accused her of having a sexual relationship with her boyfriend.

She was forced into the taxi by the suspects which drove with them to Inanda where they continued assaulting her with a hammer and also robbed her of cash. She managed to flee from the suspects and rushed to hospital for medical attention.

The incident was reported to the police and charges of kidnapping, robbery and assault were opened for investigation. The suspects were all arrested on the following day by Durban Central and Inanda police officers.

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula applauded all involved in arresting the suspects.
