A total of four suspects linked to the killing of a police officer at Mbongolwane appeared in the Eshowe Magistrate’s Court on 4 December 2017, where they withdrew their bail application.
They were remanded in custody until 19 January 2018. They were arrested after police conducted and intensive investigation and traced them to Esikhaleni.
It has been established that two of the suspects, Mhlakayifani Mpho Mathonsi (22) and Mbongiseni Madwa Thusini (21) were previously arrested for a business robbery which was reported at Mbongolwane in 2014.
Following their appearance in court they were released on bail however did not observe their bail conditions and did not appear in court again.
A warrant for their arrest was issued. They will now also appear in court on charge of robbery as well.
