360 arrests led to 46 convictions in KZN

Sterling investigative work by KZN FCS Units secures 329 years and 8 LIFE terms sentences.

A total of 360 arrests led to 46 convictions which includes eight life sentences, 329 years and six months imprisonment sentences for crimes against women and children during the month of May 2017 have been secured. The KwaZulu-Natal Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Units worked tirelessly to make sure that the arrested suspects faced the full might of the law and received deserving sentences.

The suspects were arrested for cases including rape, attempted rape, sexual assault, common assault, kidnapping and child pornography. The members managed to secure the convictions while other cases remain under investigation and are at court.

“These sentences are a clear indication that our FCS Units in KwaZulu-Natal are committed and dedicated towards ensuring that they protect our women and children by sending the perpetrators to prison where they belong. Our detectives are committed to ensuring thorough and responsive investigations in line with our Back to Basics approach towards policing. We appeal to the victims not be hesitant or afraid to report such cases to the police,” said the KwaZulu-Natal Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Bheki Langa
