On Wednesday, 20 December 2017 Richards Bay Detectives followed up information about suspects who were involved in a business robbery and kidnapping.

The members proceeded to Melmoth and Nseleni where two suspects were arrested. The third suspect was arrested in Richards Bay area.

His premises was searched and an unlicensed firearm and ammunition were recovered as well as a cellphone. The suspects will appear in the Richards Bay Magistrates’ Court on 22 December 2017 facing business robbery and kidnapping charges and a further possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition for third suspect.

On 12 December 2017 at 17.40, the victim was at his business premises at Richards Bay when the suspects approached him.

The suspects allegedly pointed him with a firearm and took an undisclosed amount of cash. They allegedly kidnapped his friend and drove away in their VW Polo getaway vehicle. Later, the kidnapped victim was released.

A case of business robbery and kidnapping was opened at Richards Bay police station.

The KwaZulu-Natal Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Bheki Langa praised the members for arresting the suspects.
