KwaZulu-Natal police have arrested 25 crime suspects in a weekend operation conducted in the Mountain Rise area, Pietermaritzburg.

Police spokesperson Captain Nqobile Gwala said the operations included roadblocks, stop and search duties, foot patrol duties, cordon and search as well as other crime-prevention duties that started on Friday and ended on Monday afternoon.

Gwala said police seized cocaine, heroin, mandrax, whoonga and dagga (cannabis) with a street value of R25 000, and that all arrested suspects have appeared in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrates’ Court.

The suspects face charges that include housebreaking, pointing of firearms, theft, possession of drugs, shoplifting and illegal immigration.

“Station members were assisted by the uMgungundlovu Cluster members who played a vital role in ensuring that these operations were success,” said Gwala.

KZN acting provincial commissioner, Major General Bheki Langa, praised the uMgungundlovu Cluster and Mountain Rise members for their commitment in rooting crime in the area.
