On the morning of 2 November 2019, members from SAPS Durban Search and Rescue Unit, along with Durban K9 Search and Rescue Unit and Metro Police Search and Rescue Unit were called out to the Cato Crest shack settlement, where more than 150 shacks had been destroyed by fire.
The eThekwini Fire and Rescue service contained and extinguished the fire. The body of a 16 year old boy was recovered.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this stage.
