On 4 April 2019, the Nquthu Regional Court sentenced Simphiwe Collen Mchunu (33) to 13 years imprisonment for rape. It is alleged on 5 January 2015, a 19 year old mute woman was attacked by unknown man while at home at Madresini. The accused who was wearing a balaclava forcefully entered the house and raped the victim.
A case of rape was opened at Mondlo SAPS and it was transferred to Vryheid Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit for further investigation.
The detective assigned to investigate the docket gathered all the evidence and the accused was arrested on 2 July 2017. He was remanded in custody until his sentence.
