Knysna detectives made a breakthrough in the search for the suspect, George William Cameron (47), following his arrest in Rustenburg in the North West earlier this week.

A tip off on his whereabouts was received from a member of the public. Police operationalized the information when they pounced on a house at Rustenburg where the man was apprehended.

The suspect remains in custody and this matter are being transferred to Knysna where he is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, 5 July 2021.

He is facing charges of attempted murder and attempted robbery.

It is alleged that a 69-year-old woman was lured by a man into a business transaction near the Waterfront. Upon arrival the man got into her vehicle when he threatened the woman.

He poured petrol on the victim’s body and attempted to rob her. She managed to escape the ordeal and went to seek for assistance.

The suspect fled on foot thereafter.

Acting Eden Cluster Commander, Brigadier Phumzile Cetyana, thanked everyone who assist with the search and subsequent arrest of the suspect.

Investigation continues.
