Two men were sentenced to 23 years and 15 years respectively for the rape and murder of Tracey-Lee Martins by the High Court in Johannesburg sitting in Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court, according to a media report.
The Star reported that Kyle Fredericks, 21, was sentenced to 23 years for raping, robbing and killing Martins.
His accomplice Shinawaaz Ahmento, 21, received 15 years for raping Martins as well as robbing and assaulting her grandmother, the newspaper reported.
During sentencing, acting Judge Louis Vorster said the two were led astray by drugs.
“You went with the intention to rob Martins, but things went wrong as she recognised you and called your name,” Vorster told Fredericks.
“She died a gruesome death and you showed no remorse. You were still young and you were a victim of drug abuse.”
