The Hawks Serious Organised Crime Team together with Crime Intelligence and Gauteng K9 have arrested two more suspects of an alleged notorious vehicle hijacking syndicate in an interprovincial takedown operation.

The syndicate has been on the radar of the authorities for a while. A project driven investigation has consequently linked them to more than 17 hijacking incidents thus far. The said cases some of which dates back to 2008 were committed across provinces. The syndicate’s reign of terror includes incidents in Johannesburg, Cape Town, North West and the Free State provinces.

One of the arrested suspects is expected to appear at the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court on 24 February 2021, whilst the other is scheduled to appear at the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 25 February 2021.

The pair’s arrest follows that of Sharief Solomon (36) on Friday, 12 February 2021 by the same team in Cape Town.

Solomon appeared on the 15 February 2021 at the Goodwood Magistrate’s Court. The matter is expected to be centralized soon to allow for the three to appear in the same dock to face charges of hijackings and possession of stolen vehicles.
