After the radical group BlackFirst LandFirst (BLF) intimidated the MiWay insurer during a protest action, the insurer agreed to transformation.
BLF accused MiWay of theft since its board is white.
The action came after a fake news email was distributed on a MiWay’s letterhead in which black customers were called baboons, and that 90% of their claims would be rejected next month.
Although it was evident from the onset that there was no truth in the e-mail, it was sufficient reason for Andile Mngxitama and his fellow radical BLF group to confront the insurer.
René Otto, MiWay’s CEO, agreed that the MiWay board should show more transformation.
Apparently, MiWay has undertaken to meet with BLF again in six months and has promised that BLF will see progress in their transformation.
