Man shot and killed on Muldersdrift smallholding

A Pretoria man is in a critical condition in hospital after a dramatic gun battle with a gang of alleged house robbers in Lyttelton on Monday night.

In the frenzied exchange of fire, the homeowner shot and killed one man who had allegedly been holding his wife captive.

Security services tracked down and arrested two other alleged gang members after they had fled the home. A fourth member is still at large.

Police spokesperson warrant officer David Miller said the homeowner had confronted the group of alleged house robbers who had already forced their way inside his house.

“The four had forced entry to the property and had held a woman at gunpoint. They were in the process of stripping her of her valuables when they were confronted by the homeowner, her husband.”

“A shootout ensued and in the process one suspect was killed and the man was badly wounded. His wife was also wounded in the shooting having sustained a gunshot wound to the arm,” Miller added.

He said a gun thought to have been used in the robbery was recovered and detectives may link the robbers to a spate of house robberies in the area.
