High Court - 'lockdown regulations are unconstitutional and invalid'

AfriForum welcomes the ruling by the North Gauteng High Court on 2 June 2020 that the regulations of level 4 and level 3 of the lockdown are unconstitutional and invalid. The regulations for level 3 are however still in place, because the court suspended the declaration of invalidity for 14 days.

Ernst Roets, Head of Policy and Action at AfriForum, described the lockdown regulations as an inexcusable violation of people’s basic liberties and confirmed that the organisation was ready to continue assisting the tobacco, beauty and restaurant industries with legal action.
