Hard facts and proven evidence must serve as the decisive factors when it comes to the competency of the current Public Protector (PP), Adv Busisiwe Mkhwebane.

That is the view the FF Plus expressed on 20 July 2021, with the commencement of the parliamentary Section 194 Committee of Inquiry, consisting of 36 members, into Mkhwebane’s competency to hold a public office.

Mr Richard Dyantyi, ANC Member of Parliament, is the chairperson.

The PP may only be removed from her office based on grounds of misconduct, incapacity or incompetence and it is imperative that real facts and evidence guide all the decisions in this regard.

Mkhwebane must be afforded the opportunity to state her side of the case and the process must be fair and just.

The Office of the PP plays a critically important role in protecting the public against irregularities in governance, therefore, it is vital for this Office to be managed with integrity and expertise so that it instills confidence in the public.

The FF Plus will do its part in contributing to the investigation and seeing to it that the process of inquiry culminates in a fair decision in the interest of all South Africans.
