Last month Statistics South Africa found that after agriculture, mining is the only other industry that has shown growth, thus contributing to the fact that the country did not enter into a deeper recession.

Just like the threats to agriculture, the government is now also embarking on a deliberate program of mining and eventually will destroy the mining sector.

The responsible minister, Mosebenzi Zwane, plans to freeze future mining operations. He published under the guise of sustainable development proposed regulations in the Government Gazette, which will freeze all mining operations in an industry that, in 2016, has under severe attacks still delivered 8% of the country’s gross domestic product.

It is asked what the motive may be for the unreasonable conduct.

Adv. Anton Alberts of the FF + believes it is a blatant attempt to weaken mining shares for takeover by the Guptas and ANC government and is nothing but treason, and he calls it “sneaky expropriation.”

“It is clearly a policy against the interests of the country and its people and is apparently unconstitutional because it will destroy jobs and thus affect the right to dignity of many people. This can be regarded as a form of indirect expropriation due to the heavy restrictions placed on the shares of mines.”

“There will be no new investments in the industry that will drive much-needed job creation. This action is, in fact, contrary to the business of Malusi Gigaba, Finance Minister, to bring stability to the mining sector regarding its 14-point plan.”

“This suspension of transactions in the mining industry will drastically weaken the value of mining shares. As soon as the constraint is lifted, the Guptas and their extensive ANC network will be able to take over a lot of mines at a major bargain.”

“What Zwane does in effect is the same as Eskom did with the Optimum mine by actually enforcing the mine in bankruptcy so that the Guptas could buy the mine with Eskom advanced funds. The FF Plus does not doubt the same is being planned here,” said Adv. Alberts.
