As travelers try to find alternatives rather than using the crime airport of Johannesburg, it seems that the airport staff is possibly involved in crime.
The airport that nowadays carries OR Tambo’s name has recently been robbed by syndicates, and even one theft on the runway, while passengers are marked and then followed and robbed.
High-level investigations found that employees can be involved in virtually every department. As a result, many employees have now been suspended while some have already been fired. As of today, about 35 000 employees will be cleared.
There are also plans to regularly rotate or replace staff at the airport.
Seven police officers have been suspended on suspicion of involvement in the crime.
