At approximately 01H 00 on Sunday, February 26, armed suspects broke into a house on a smallholding on the Grootfontein Country Estate, outside Pretoria East.
The armed suspect threw a brick through a bedroom window (there were no loose bricks on the property). Michael Molefe (40) was sleeping in a spare room and his wife Mosima (31) was sleeping in the main room with her one-month-old baby. Their other daughter Solar (5) was asleep in the room as well.
The suspect fired two shots through the window and injured Mosima in the hip and upper leg. Michael woke up, grabbed a baseball bat, and cornered the suspect. He tried to fend off the intruder who fled the scene.
The police, emergency services, and community security responded to the incident. Medics stabilized Mosima and transferred her to the hospital. Mosima underwent an operation on Sunday afternoon and is out of immediate danger.
The investigation is ongoing.
