A woman was left critically injured on the afternoon of 10 July 2017 after she allegedly set herself alight outside a shop on Union Street in Randfontein, west of Johannesburg.

ER24 paramedics were dispatched to the scene shortly after 16h10.

Upon arrival, paramedics found a woman seated outside the shop surrounded by several members of the public.

Paramedics assessed the woman and found that she had sustained burn wounds to her head and face and was in a critical condition.

The woman was treated for her injuries and provided with pain-relief medication before she was transported to Leratong Provincial Hospital for further care.

It is alleged that the woman had petrol over herself and set herself alight.

Local authorities were on the scene to investigate further.
