A woman was arrested at OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg after eight kilograms of cocaine with a street value of around R2.3 million was found in her luggage, the South African Revenue Service (Sars) said on Monday
The woman, who arrived on a flight from Sao Paolo, Brazil, was arrested on Sunday, shortly after Sars customs officials and a detector dog scanned her bags.
“The traveller’s luggage was scanned and five handbags lined with secret compartments were found inside one of the two suitcases after the dog reacted positively to the bag,” Sars said in a statement.
“The female passenger with the 8kg cocaine, valued at R2,301,600, was handed to SA Police Service for further investigation and possible prosecution.”
