Police arrested a 23-year-old female for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition at Wanderers Taxi rank corner Noord and Wanderers Street on 4 June 2020 at 14:00.

Police were busy with their routine crime prevention duties of stop and search in the taxi rank. When they were searching commuters waiting in the queue for taxis to Durban; they saw a suspicious female moving away from the queue. They searched her luggage and recovered an unlicensed firearm with ammunition. The firearm has a serial number which shows that the rightful owner passed away on 22 February 2002.

Firearm will be sent to ballistic testing to ascertain if it was used in the commission of serious and violent crimes.

Investigation is under way and suspect will appear soon in the Johannesburg Magistrate Court.

Station Commander of Johannesburg Central Brigadier Perumal commended members for removing one of the firearms from the wrongful hands. He urged the community to keep on giving police information concerning crime taking place in their precinct.
