Woman ambushed, brutally beaten during Rietfontein farm attack

A farm attack took place in Rietfontein, Vaalbank, in the Gauteng province on 4 March 2019, at 16:30. The attack occurred between the N4 and R25. Four attackers waited for and ambushed a middle aged woman who lives alone. When she returned home from work and opened the front door two attackers started beating her with a broomstick and started kicking her.

They covered their faces with their shirts with one hand. Two more suspects who covered their faces with her clothing came out of the passage and ran to the kitchen door when she fought back and screamed. The assault lasted 15 minutes.

Suspects fled the scene and she phoned for help at about 16h45. Necessary phone calls were made because they luckily didn’t take her phone. Help arrived within 20 minutes. She discovered her computer, mini hifi, a lawn mower and all her food and some of her clothing was taken.

The victim has no employees and was not connected to the community safety network at the time.

BHS Veiligheid Support team, Kapanga, and SAPS Bronkhorstspruit and K9 responded swiftly. SAPS investigation will continue. The victim didn’t sustain any serious injuries. No arrests has been made yet.

She suspects that it might be the same team who came to steal corrugated iron roof off a nearby building, belonging to the same landlord. On confronting them one day, they threatened to come back to kill her.
