A farm attack took place on 20 March 2023, at 01:30 on a smallholding in Haakdoornboom, North of Pretoria, in the Gauteng province of South Africa.
Martha Baloyi (63) was fatally wounded and found by police in the passage of her home.
Her son Junior (43) was wounded during the attack and transported to hospital.
Two armed attackers opened fire on Junior through the kitchen window after he had gone to investigate noises.
The attackers then broke down the door, entered the home and shot Martha Baloyi.
Her injured son managed to lock himself in the bedroom and called for help.
It is unclear what, if anything, was robbed from the home during the attack.
The police are investigating but there have been no arrests.
