Thousands of Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) supporters took to the streets of Pretoria forcing businesses to shut down on the party’s “day of action” on Wednesday.
Businesses closed doors as the red berets approached Pretorius Street. Windows and doors of a pizza and a chicken outlet were smashed by demonstrators along Pretorius Street.
EFF leader Julius Malema had earlier told them to shut down the CBD, adding that they were free to roam the streets.
Another group of EFF supporters, dressed in part regalia, turned their attention to Save South Africa movement rally that was being held along Paul Kruger Street at the St. Alban Cathedral Church.
The EFF supporters tried to disrupt the peaceful gathering as speakers such as Sipho Pityana, Jay Naidoo and DA leader Mmusi Maimane addressed the crowd.
Security guards sprung into action and closed the gate, preventing EFF supporters from entering the church yard.
The EFF is demanding that President Jacob Zuma and National Prosecution s Authority head Shaun Abrahams step down.
