The Westonaria Magistrates’ Court remanded a 43-year-old man charged with possession of drugs worth approximately R750 000-00, illegal dealing in drugs, and contravention of the Drugs and Drug Trafficking Act in custody pending investigation.

It is alleged that the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation in Johannesburg received intelligence regarding suspicious illegal drug dealings in the Westonaria precinct, west of Johannesburg.

Police kept surveillance at the positively identified premises on Sunday, 20 February 2022, and pounced on the suspect who was on his way out.

Upon searching the suspect, Charles Chukwudi, the investigation team found about 40grams of suspected cat drugs, in his possession.

Investigation team proceeded to the dwelling where more than 350grams of suspected crystal meth drugs as well as additional 175grams of cat drugs were found inside plastic bags ready for distribution.

Chukwudi was immediately apprehended and charged.

During his first court appearance the court postponed the case to Tuesday, 22 February 2022, for legal representation.

On 22 February 2022, the court remanded Chukwudi in custody pending investigation and the case is postponed to Friday, 25 February 2022 for a formal bail application.
