Some of the 3382 suspects that were arrested for various offences this past week, ending Sunday 12 August 2018, have already appeared in court while those arrested during this past weekend’s operations will appear in various courts across Gauteng Province on Monday 13 August 2018.

More than 1600 were arrested for drug related crimes after police found packaged and loose dagga at different crime scenes, masking tape, mandrax tablets, CAT and crystal meth. Over 700 were arrested for drunken driving as police intensify the fight against road fatalities. Other offences for which suspects were arrested include possession of suspected stolen property, including hijacked vehicles.

The BUYA MTHETHO integrated deployments made up of SAPS, Metro Police, Gauteng Traffic, and other law enforcement role playing Departments, will jointly follow through and ensure that cases are court ready towards successful prosecutions.

Gauteng Commissioner of Police, Lieutenant General Deliwe de Lange has commended the tireless efforts of the law enforcement officers in Gauteng towards upholding the intentions of the BUYA MTHETHO operational plan that seeks to restore public confidence by making sure that the residents of Gauteng are and feel safe and secure.

“Most of these successful arrests are as a result of joint intelligence driven operations, of which most information is obtained from members of the public”, said the Provincial Commissioner, endorsing the valuable collaboration between the police and the communities in the strife to root out crime from society.
