The Cape’s water crisis has been temporarily relieved and now it is the Gauteng facing a water and sewerage crisis. The problem lies not only in the high consumption of water, (300 liters per day per person), but also in the dumping of raw sewage in rivers flowing to the storage dams.

As in the rest of SA maintenance is a strange phenomenon for the people in charge. Only one of the three water treatment plants in Gauteng is in working condition. The problem is compared to the situation in Congo and the army has been called in to restore the other two facilities.

The question arises from voters as to weather or not the army has the necessary expertise to solve the problem as the SANDF is also just as close to ‘rubbish’ status.
