The police have arrested a murder suspect who has been wanted for murders since 2020 at a roadblock that was held on 20 October 2022 at Columbine road.

The arrest came after a suspicious vehicle with a bullet hole on the side was stopped.

The detectives of Anti-Gang Unit were immediately mobilised to conduct further investigations on the occupants and the vehicle.

The detectives identified one of the occupants as the suspect who was wanted by the team for murders and allegedly terrorising the community of Westbury and Eldorado Park.

The suspect had a warrant of arrest issued for him and is also linked to another case of murder in Sophiatown.

On another separate incident, the team followed up on information about a man reportedly carrying an unlicensed firearm in Maraisburg. Upon arrival at the said place, the suspect attempted to run away when seeing the police but he was swiftly cornered. He was arrested after being found in possession of an unlicensed firearm with ammunition.

The Provincial Commissioner of Gauteng, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela has commended the team for making this arrest and assured the public that the police will continue working hard in ensuring that those who transgress the law are arrested. “The wheels of justice may seem to grind slowly but surely perpetrators will be brought to book”, said Lt Gen Mawela.
