This week in Kempton Park, members of a well renowned non-government organization based in Midrand-Kyalami fully dressed in protective gear, reported at the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department Headquarters, situated at the corner of Margaret and Long.  Without any waste of time, the four-story building sanitization began.

The Scientology Volunteer Ministers, which has been effective for over 30 years, volunteered their services to sanitize all EMPD buildings and official motor vehicles following the lockdown, since the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic was introduced.

As the Chief of Police I. J. Mapiyeye and his management team went through the organization’s profile before they were endorsed, they came out highly recommended by national, provincial and neighboring Law Enforcement Agencies because of their exceptional charity work they have been engaged in previously.

There are nearly 200 volunteers that have donated more than 70,000 hours of volunteer work to sanitize spaces of government buildings, emergency services, clinics and shelters for the most vulnerable including the elderly, disabled and our youth.  Combined, this accumulates to having sanitized 1,434 buildings and 1 million square meters since the lockdown began. They also sanitized emergency vans, police vehicles and fire trucks, totaling 1,728 vehicles, all at their own cost.

“We take great pride in our country and in supporting the President in this time of disaster.  It brings us great joy to assist and provide safety and hygiene education to our fellow South Africans.  We stand together in solidarity in fighting this pandemic,” said spokesperson of the Volunteer Minister, Mr. Sandile Hlayisi.

Scientologists remind that all their work is based on the Founder of the philosophy, L. Ron Hubbard.  Considered as a man ahead of his time, he arrived in South Africa and took residence on Linksfield Ridge overlooking Johannesburg in September 1960.  His initial days were spent lecturing at a then newly established Scientology center in Joubert Park, while his evenings were significantly devoted to broader national issues.

Mr. Hubbard maintained that no nation can hope for a stable economic/political climate when the majority of the citizens are not afforded fundamental human rights and he drafted and proposed a constitution in favor of the Black African cause “One Man – One vote” regardless of race color or creed.

Inspired by his courage and his works, Scientologists are continuing the tradition of Mr. Hubbard with the Scientology Volunteer Minister Program which was inspired by his stay in South Africa to bring assistance to those in need, wherever and whenever the call may come.

The NGO has vouched that they are not expecting any remuneration following the decontamination process.  They promised to continue sanitizing EMPD buildings and vehicles and to do everything they can to help mitigate the spread of the  coronavirus.
