A Venezuelan woman is in police custody for allegedly trying to smuggle R2 million worth of cocaine hidden in cuban cigar tubes into South Africa via OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, the SA Revenue Service (Sars) said in a statement on Monday.

“The female travelling from Brazil was stopped and searched,” Sars said.

The cocaine, weighing eight kilograms, was found stuffed in the cigar tubes in the woman’s luggage.

The woman was handed over into the custody of the police and is expected to appear in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s court on Tuessday.
