Barnie van Heerden and his wife Magda were attacked and seriously injured in their home in Avian Laan, Pierre van Ryneveld Park, Centurion, Pretoria, on Friday morning 10 January 2020. Magda is sill in a critical condition in hospital and she is not doing well at the moment. The couple was both stabbed several times and also hit with a golf club during the attack.
A family member was reportedly arrested after the incident.
The domestic worker, who sleeps in, heard shouts during the attack and ran to inform security guards in the vicinity. They called the Police but with the arrival of Police at the scene the suspects, a male and female, had already fled with the couple’s vehicle.
Paramedics stabilised the couple on the scene and Magda was taken to hospital in an air ambulance helicopter.
The couple’s vehicle was found back abandoned a couple of hours later near Tembisa and Police made a breakthrough when they arrested the male suspect later on Friday in Aliwal North driving in an Uber taxi.
Police is looking for the female suspect.
